Help us increase the early diagnosis of cancer in men in Kent and Medway

Finding cancer early, can mean it is more treatable, but statistics show in Kent and Medway, men are less likely to be diagnosed at an early stage with some cancers.

Our Cancer Alliance’s Early Diagnosis team wants to change this and wanted to hear from men and women about what barriers; or what they feel stops men coming forward.

The feedback will be used to inform the development of a communications/information campaign to increase the early diagnosis of cancers in men.

The campaign we are developing will focus on upper and lower gastrointestinal cancers including:

  • Oesophagus cancer (which affects the food pipe or gullet)
  • Stomach
  • Pancreatic
  • Liver
  • Bowel
  • Rectal
  • Anal.

Urological cancers including:

  • Kidney
  • Bladder
  • Prostate.

How can you help?

We shared an anonymous survey throughout November 2023 to ask you what cancers or signs and symptoms you might have heard about.

The survey closed on 30 November. We are now reviewing the feedback received.

Take part in a focus group

If you’d like to share your views in small focus group of between six and 10 people, please express an interest by emailing the alliance team at england.kmcanceralliance@nhs.net, putting ‘Early diagnosis focus group’ in the subject header.

We look forward to hearing from you.
